Premier league matchday 30

Arsenal dominated Manchester United in a top of the League clash 2-0 and are virtually in the Champions League. With 8 games left 5 teams battle for the Champions League two remaining spots.

Tottenham Hotspur have lost many games and are now only one point clear from the Gunners with 61 points. Arsenal with 60 points, Manchester United with 58 points and lastly Chelsea with 57 points but also one game in hands.  The rush for the Champions League berth will be exciting.

Arsenal showed Paris Saint-Germain how to beat Manchester United. The Red Devils humiliated the French champions, 3-1 in Paris, earlier in the week qualifying for the first time in the competition’s history after losing the first game at home 2-0.

Arsenal coach Emery on the win:

“It’s the best performance this season. I think we’re improving and also I think we’re being competitive in different matches, away from home and against different teams. We responded and sometimes you’ve seen different systems and different players, but above all we can feel today very proud of every player. The players did very well with a very big spirit and big commitment for the work we’ve done.

We were positive when we were struggling in the table and we took balance in our mind when we were worse – and now after these victories we can be positive, but it won’t change our idea. We need to continue and it will be difficult, and our style and way and thinking will be game by game. We’re in two competitions now, the Premier League and also the Europa League.

We are happy today, we are going to analyse the match and also in the table we are better, but Manchester United, Chelsea and Tottenham are with us. We are going to play some difficult matches and being consistent is very important. At the moment I think we are playing consistent in each match and today we showed everybody that. We were calm, showed passion and continued improving. Controlling our emotions is very important. We need to keep this consistency in our mind.”

Man United coach Solskjaer could not beat a team better than PSG this time:

We started slowly and maybe it was a backlash from Wednesday night [against PSG], I don’t know. Today we were lethargic in the first 10-15 minutes, we did not have the zip and we did not take the chances. But you cannot say it was a game we deserved to lose. We created chances, that’s the thing and hit the woodwork twice.

We created so many more chances today than, say for example, when we beat them in the FA Cup. We played a better game today than back then but that doesn’t help when the result is like it is. When they get the first goal, it’s a different game. The performance was good, the result was disappointing. We have won games we have not deserved to win. Today we lost a game we did not deserve to lose.
