Premier League matchday 29
It was the North London derby day and Tottenham got their first draw of the season 1-1 against Arsenal. After 20 wins and 8 losses, the Spurs solidify third place against a strong opponent.
Arsenal led and dominated most of the game but the Spurs were awarded a penalty full of controversy as Harry Kane was outside when the play started.
Arsenal coach Emery on the encouraging performance:
“We played like a team, feeling together and pushing individually and collectively. After the adaptation to the match was good, our moments in 90 minutes, they were strong for us to think that also we could win this match.
I think today that we played with a big collective spirit and tactically, I think we adapted well to battle them in our moments, also with transitions and some quality actions from our players.
I am very proud of the players because after the 1-1 we got into their box to score the second goal and to win. This is the mentality that we want. I want to continue creating more and I think today we created so many important chances that gave us the possibility to win. Today it wasn’t for us.”
Tottenham Hotspur coach, Pochettino, on the first time splitting points:
“We showed great character. We deserved the victory but the circumstances at the end make this point even more important to build our confidence and to be sure to arrive in a good condition against Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday.
It was so difficult to concede in the way we conceded after 15 minutes. That was so disappointing but it was important to keep fighting and working hard to bounce back in the game.
At the end you have to look at all of the circumstances, the circumstances were difficult and a massive save from Hugo helped us get a point to build a positive run again.
It was so important after two defeats to keep our confidence and to be strong. Not only the performance, the point also helps us to keep our belief and build our confidence for the future.”
