La Liga week 18:

First off, Happy New New Year to all! The beautiful game has not stopped over the end of year holidays with many great games all across Europe.

La Liga resumes next weekend with a clash on top of the table when second place Atletico Madrid visit third place FC Sevilla. According to La Liga betting experts, the team from the capital comes slightly favorites in this game after a close end of 2018.

Aiming at title

Atletico de Madrid aim at a trophy this season after winning the Europa League last year. They sit three points behind leaders FC Barcelona and have only lost once so far this season [2 losses for Barça]. They have high hopes especially this year where Real Madrid lost already five times.

Aside from La Liga, the home of Atletico, Wanda Metropolitano stadium will host the next Champions League final and surely Atletico would like to be featured then. However, they were drawn the mighty Juventus and Cristiano Ronaldo in the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 lowering their chances to move on.

FC Sevilla are worthy opponents and have faired very well. They will ve a tough team to beat at home and can count on the crowd. Players are working hard and see results coming their way as explains team manager Machín:

‘We managers are lucky because we can do what we love and what we’ve been wanting to do for a long time. The stats show that we’re doing things well.

It’s down to the fact that we have really good and determined players, that makes everything else easier.

We put in the hours and work so that they have everything they need and they can carry out what we want of them. we’re doing a great job. But we can’t become complacent and it would be a mistake to think that everything’s wrapped up. We can always improve in every aspect.

I’m working so that the phases of play in which we dominate become more and more frequent. We come up against great opponents who want to do the same as well though. The best psychology is common sense and bringing that with you wherever you go.’
