Valencia 1-2 PSG

Post game reactions:

Leonardo (Paris Saint-Germain sporting director)
“I think we sent a fairly strong signal today. We can’t forget where we come from, where we were just 18 months ago. To build a team that can travel to Valencia in a game this big and show that kind of confidence and assuredness is the sign that we are worthy of this competition. Of course the last five minutes weren’t ideal, but tonight remains nevertheless an historic victory.”

Carlo Ancelotti (Paris Saint-Germain coach)
“We played well tonight on a very difficult pitch. We showed great quality and a great attitude. We need to show the same approach in the return leg. We had a lot of chances to score and we defended very well. It was an excellent performance, despite conceding that late goal. Ibrahimovic did not deserve to be sent off. I don’t understand the decision. It is completely unjustified.”

Christophe Jallet (Paris Saint-Germain defender)
“We played very tonight, especially in the first half when we scored twice. We had the chance to score a third goal, and unfortunately we conceded a goal late on. We would have loved to taken a two-goal lead into the return leg, but the win remains the main thing. Before kick-off, we would have taken a 2-1 win, even though we now have a few regrets about the way the match ended.”

Mamadou Sakho (Paris Saint-Germain defender)
“Obviously we’re disappointed to have conceded that late goal, but it’s still an excellent result. A 2-1 away win in the first leg is a good result. Everyone stepped up to the challenge. This was a great result for the team and the club. It’s good for the confidence and now we need to keep the run going. It was a special night for me. My daughter was born yesterday and it’s my birthday tomorrow and I’ve earned a great win in my second ever Champions League match, with my one and only club, a club I love… It doesn’t get any better than this!”
