MLS Playoffs Conference semifinals Leg 2: New York City FC 0-5 Toronto FC, New Red Bulls 1-2 Montreal Impact

Both Canadians teams advance to the Conference Finals as they dominate their Americans counterpart. New Yorkers had dreamed off a city rival clash but they got beat up by better sides. Toronto went on a demonstration to rout a weak NYCFC side as Giovinco eclipsed Pirlo, Lampard, Villa, etc.. with a hat-trick on his own.

We hear from the winners side:

Coach Vanney – Toronto FC:

“We came out aggressive and we wanted to get the first goal. Credit to the guys and their approach. Last year when we clinched beating New York, I think was one of those days. Winning the first playoff game this year was another one of those games. Advancing through this series for sure is going to be another one of the moments. We’re just continuing to develop a culture and a mentality of winning, and it’s what I would say was lacking in previous years.”

Giovinco added:

“Now let’s refocus on the three games that are left for the MLS Cup. My job is scoring goals and providing assists, that’s what I want to keep doing for the team. Everything will be put into winning the MLS Cup – which is way more important.”

Coach Biello -Montreal Impact on reaching first-ever Conference Finals spot:

“I am happy for everyone on this team. This group came together and started believing that this team can go far. I am very proud of this team that represents our city so well. It’s a great joy for me to see my team perform as it did tonight.

We pushed the game wide and defended crosses well. We didn’t let their striker behind us. We’re really excited about this Conference Championship, and so are our fans. The entire team has the same mentality and is shooting for MLS Cup. We’re in the Conference Championship, and we’ll give everything to reach our goal.”
