MLS: Orlando City 1-2 Atlanta United

Josef Martinez scored his 28th and broke the previous MLS single-season scoring record by giving the away team a big win to remain on top of the Eastern Conference.

Only a few days after tying the record, it only took one more game for the Venezuelan striker to break the record and enters in MLS history. Additionally he scored the winning goal with less than 20 minutes to play in the game. This makes the night even sweater for the striker and his team.

Josef Martinez on setting new MLS record:

“I’m happy with where we came to play. I’m very happy because like I said last week, if I reached 28 I would be very happy, happier than ever. I’m happy to get the record and the three points.

“it is a big relief for me. When I went into the locker room laughing, the guys were making jokes about it and now I can make jokes back to them.”

Coach Martino added:

“With Josef, we knew he was going to break the record. It was just a matter of if he could do it sooner or later.

The good thing is he did it sooner. Now this will calm him down. On top of that, he did it with a very nice goal.”
