Bayern Munich eliminated in the Champions League semifinals.
Guardiola was unable to reach the Champions League Final for the third straight time with Bayern Munich. He was announced earlier to be the next Manchester City coach and they replace Pellegrini who brought Manchester City to the semifinals of the Champions League in their history and will leave the Citizens with a somewhat respectable track record.
But after winning the Champions League with FC Barcelona armada, the SPanish coach went on to take the challenge with Bayern Munich whose ambition for every season is to win the Champions League. Althought Bayern Munich has won 3 Bundesliga title under him, they failed to reach the Champions LEague Final, being eliminated three consecutive times at the semfinal stage.. Not bad right? Not enough for the very ambition German club.
Therefore, what is to expect from Guardiola with Manchester City? It seems the challenge will be very hard and sureyl the club’s management has very high hopes for the team in the next coming years with Guardiola leading them. Not only they will aim at another Premier League but to reach the Champions League final that Guardiola failed for 3 three straight years.
Some reactions from the game vs. Atletico:
FCB chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge “First let me say that our team played magnificently. They’d have deserved to make it to Milan. I think they did a fantastic job. The way they fought and played: all credit to them. Of course we wanted to go to Milan. It didn’t work out, and that’s painful.”
Coach Pep Guardiola: “I gave my life for this team, I fought and did my best. We played as we wanted to play today. We came up one goal short. I’m sorry, especially for the players.”
Therefore, you can respond to the question yourself and make your judgement. Indeed, Guardiola is a great coach but better than Pellegrini… there no proven evidences, why? Because when you see the team Guardiola had whern he won the Champions League with Barcelona, it is easier to win games. Also, the same applies to Luis Enrique now with FC Barcelona. Both coaches Guardiola and Enrique played for the Catalans and knew perfectly the system Cruyff created decades ago… So good luck with Manchester City and prove us wrong!!
