Europa League match day 1

The Europa League resumed today with some major clubs on display that regularly play in the Champions League such as Arsenal, Chelsea, AC Milan and FC Sevilla among a few others.

Arsenal dominated then fell asleep

Arsenal played fort about 75 minutes tonight giving a good beating to their opponent at 4-0. But, during the last quarter of the game, the Gunners slowed down and let Vorskla scored two goals. It’s now the fourth consecutive win for the Gunners after two inaugural losses.

Arsenal coach, Emery comments on the win:

“We are happy because the first match here with our supporters is first important to win. At the beginning of this competition, it’s important to take confidence and take the first victory.

I think the first 60 minutes were good with imposing our ideas against them and also, little by little in the match, winning battles on the pitch to be near to scoring. With the four goals, I think we are in a good moment.

But we want to be competitive for 90 minutes and I think the last 20 minutes, we conceded chances and we need to improve. Our disappointment today is that there were two goals conceded.

But I am going to think that the first 60 minutes were very good and that we are going to continue impressing with those ideas. Our challenge is to be competitive for 90 minutes of each match and this is one thing to improve.”

Chelsea with a slight margin

Chelsea traveled to Greece to play PAOK and Willian was the unique scorer early in this match. Coach Sarri had decided to rest a few key players such as Hazard and Giroud but they were in control for most of the game as the coach relates:

“We had a lot of opportunities, we missed them, so I am really happy with the three points and the performance but not the result, because when it is time to kill the match, we have to kill the match.

I want to think that we have played very well. I expected [PAOK star striker] Prijovic would start but he was probably injured until a few days ago.

We played very well, we were in control and I think we would be difficult for everybody to play against this evening – but I don’t know. I hope that we were so good and it is not a fault of PAOK.”

Other notable results

AC Milan struggled in Luxembourg but won 1-0 thanks to Higuain for their UEL opener. FC Sevilla routed Standard Liege 5-1 meanwhile last year’s runners-up Marseille were defeated at home by Frankfurt 2-1.
