2015 CONCACAF Cup: USA 2-3 Mexico (1-1 at the end of regular time).
The result means Mexico will be heading to the FIFA Confederations Cup Russia 2017, a year ahead of the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™.
It was a great battle in Pasadena at the Rose Bowl in front of 93,000 fans which about 70% were supporting El Tri. Mexico started perfectly the game after just 10 minutes leading 1-0 with a goal netted by Javier Hernandez ‘Chicharito’. Less than 5 minutes after Cameron equalized on a set piece delivered by Michael Bradley. Although mexico had the most chances through the regular time we would en the 90 minutes on a 1-1 tie.
The overtime will start promptly for the Mexican National Team with a goal from Oribe Peralta at the 98th minute. it will be sufficient for the Mexican to lead at the break of the overtime with only 15 more minutes to play. The Americans would not give up and their abnegation would pay with an equalizer 10 minutes before the end of the overtime. Hey, this game was meant to be one of those great USA v. Mexico battles and Mexico would find a late goal at the 118th with a superb volley who would set the stadium on fire!! See Youtube video 3rd goal stadium erupted:
Coach Jurgen Klinsmann reacts after the tough defeat:
“Our responsibility at the same time is to give fresh blood an opportunity, to give them an open fight for places. We have to kind of sit together and discuss things, who we’re counting on, how we want to build towards the next couple of games. And there’s not much time because the World Cup qualifiers are right on us. There will be a lot of conversations coming up the next couple of days.”
“I think that our players can score goals like that. On any given day Clint Dempsey or Jozy Altidore can do something like that. What we didn’t do well was simply to keep the ball. We ran a lot, and won a lot of balls, but we couldn’t calm the game down enough. But we should have done better.”
