World Cup 2018 Qualifiers. Trinidad and Tobago 2-1 United States
October 10, 2017 the darkest day in US Soccer history and also the most embarrassing at the same time. Losing to a team which has nothing to play for while all our hopes were at stakes is as unprofessional as it can be. USMNT coach Bruce Arena and Federation president Sunil Gulati are a shame for our country and should have already resigned.
We must take drastic decision in such a dramatic situation. The world is laughing at us. We cannot qualify in the least competitive qualifying region. CONCACAF is USA and Mexico dominated and we found ourselves out of the next coming World Cup.
When coach and hopefully former says It is disappointing as his opening statement, it shows how committed he is. Don’t you understand you represent the United States of America, the culture, the pride, and the team is delivers such a poor display disappointment is the least to be said. USA not in the FIFA World Cup is devastating and embarrassing.
Then you have those stupid media like Fox Sports sending a statement about the fact that Messi and Ronaldo will be at the World Cup. They are so afraid to lose all their investment in Russia with hotels and other commitments that they have to re-insure the US people. They are like: USA is out but the World Cup is still happening. This is so pathetic. And then MLS Soccer makes a statement. What for? MLS Soccer is the national league. The Dutch league did not send a statement when Holland failed to qualify. Why on earth you have to say something. The ONLY responsible are US Soccer, the players, the coaching staff. This is it. Stop your non-sense. It makes us think sometimes people here are retarded when it comes to soccer….
One American star who did not hide behind the shocking reality is Landon Donovan. Here is a piece of what he said post-elimination:
American Soccer legend – Landon Donovan:
“The most disturbing part for me was the lack of urgency displayed. We all know in sports anything can happen, you can lose games, that’s all part of it. But the lack of urgency to really understand what was it stake was really disheartening for me and candidly it was really hard to watch.”
“It should never come down to having score one goal in Trinidad to get to the World Cup. In our history we’ve had to do that, but I think we’re past those days where that should happen. The reality is we lost two games at home in qualifying, which, and I’m not a statistician, but I don’t know the last time that happened. And we lost a game in Trinidad against a team that had nothing to play for. And so that’s sort of the reality of the situation. It’s unacceptable in every way and it’s disappointing and we got what we deserved. If you can’t win more games at home in qualifying and if you can’t beat Trinidad in a game that matters for us and doesn’t for them, then you don’t deserve to go to the World Cup.”
Finally we put this guy’s face out – former coach Jürgen Klinsmann. Klinsmann did not fail USA. the US team failed him. Bruce Arena is a recycled coach and we questioned his stature as head coach as soon as he was nominated. What was wrong is to put back a guy who is outdated. Gulati, the federation’s president is at fault too and the list can probably go on. the United States Men’s National Team fooled us and ridiculed the country in front of the world. Our arrogance got punished, our mediocrity got awarded. The haters will hate more and the lovers of the game do not have respect from this team.
In 2019, the great Women’s National team will defend their World Cup title to France. Let’s all together forget about those arrogant and unprofessional men and celebrate our beautiful and great ladies. They portray the great American values. Lessons are to be taken from this failure. Now we are not blind either and we must rebound as a nation together because the World Cup is the world’s football big fiesta and the USA is missing out big time!
