U.S. Women open 2010 domestic schedule with 3-0 victory against Mexico: The U.S. Women’s National Team opened its 2010 domestic schedule with a convincing 3-0 win against Mexico at the University of San Diego’s Torero Stadium. Forward Amy Rodriguez opened the scoring in the 12th minute with her first goal since scoring against New Zealand in the 2008 Olympics, while Shannon Boxx and Lauren Cheney added goals on either side of halftime. For Cheney, it was her team-leading fifth goal of 2010 and ninth of her international career. The two teams will conclude their two-game series on Wednesday, March 31 in Sandy, Utah at 7 p.m. MT. The match will be broadcast live on ESPN2 and ESPN360.com

Also, The U.S. Women’s National Team will face Germany on May 22 at Cleveland Browns Stadium in Cleveland, Ohio, as the world’s top two women’s soccer nations meet on American soil for the first time since the 2003 FIFA Women’s World Cup. The game in Cleveland is the second match of a home-and-home series between the two international powers. In the first contest, played Oct. 29, 2009, in Augsburg, Germany, Abby Wambach’s goal gave the Americans a narrow 1-0 victory in front of an enthusiastic German crowd. Germany will host the 2011 FIFA Women’s World Cup from June 26 through July 17 in nine German cities.
