Champions League day 4: Tottenham 3-1 Real Madrid
Distanced in La Liga and surprisingly beaten at the promoted Gerona, Real Madrid suffered a second consecutive loss this time in Wembley. The team fizzles right now and coach Zidane is going through the most difficult time for the club under his tenure.
Coach Real Madrid – Zidane
“I’m not worried, whatever happens. We played against a team who were better than us tonight and we have to accept it. We didn’t play too bad a game. We had chances to level it up but, as seems to be the case for us lately, we couldn’t find the back of the net.
We can’t say we’re struggling physically. We’re at the level we’re at, perhaps it’s not perfect, because that’s two defeats in a row. After the loss in LaLiga it’s always tough to recover from a morale point of view. Now it’s going to be even more difficult, because that’s two losses in a row. But we’re fine physically, you could analyse it individually and think that perhaps someone isn’t as fit as someone else, but we’re alright. We need to find a way to put the ball in the net, which we’ve struggled with recently.
We were up against a team who played better in every area of the pitch. But we’re an experienced team full of champions, and we’re going to turn this around”.
For the Spurs after bringing a point from Madrid at Bernabeu, they confirm that this year they will extend the Champions League adventure further (eliminated last year after group stage) and coach Pochettino is delighted with the character of his team:
“I feel proud about that and so happy for so many people, our Chairman, our fans, for the Club and for all the people who love Tottenham. It’s amazing.
I’m very happy with the performance and I congratulate the players, I’m very pleased for them and for our fans and the Club, it means a lot. It’s a great victory for everyone and I’m so, so happy.
The players deserve the full credit for the performance and the victory. They win on the pitch. It’s an unbelievable performance, a great victory and now it’s important to enjoy it”.
