Champions League Round of 16

Against all odds and missing two of their best players in Harry Kane and Dele Alli, Tottenham have taken a large advantage during the first leg of the Round of 16.

Borussia Dortmund will need a miracle after the 3-0 defeat and the Bundesliga leaders did not seem to have the keys to counter a solid and well-organized Spurs team.

This i huge accomplishment for Pochettino’s men and other players have stepped up like the Korean Son who has been key to the recent success.

Tottenham coach, Pochettino, comments on the win:

“I’m so happy but it’s only the first leg and we need to finish the job. It was an amazing result and the players deserve massive praise but we need to think that it’s going to be tough to play over there.

The first half was tough, it was an even game but after Sonny scored the team started to feel more free, more confident and started to play in a very good way.

In that moment I think we started to feel comfortable too on the bench because we started to play really well. We didn’t concede too many chances and against a very good side… that’s why we need to feel proud.

Asked to sum up the night. The whole team was amazing. We need to feel proud about the performance, so happy but at the same time, calm, because there is still a lot of work to do.

We need to go out there knowing it’s going to be so tough and we need to perform like we performed today, in our best way and try to think that we need to win the next game if we want to be in the next stage of the Champions League.”

The return leg will be in March and the Spurs could have back their two English players when they face Dortmund in Germany.
