EUROPA LEAGUE QUARTERFINALS:

Tottenham Hotspur 2-2 FC Basel

Manager AVB reaction:

The Swiss champions swept into a 2-0 lead with precious away goals in the 30th and 34th minutes at White Hart Lane. The team (Tottenham) showed real character to recover as goals from Emmanuel Adebayor and Gylfi Sigurdsson levelled it up

“We’ve limited the damage,” reflected Andre. “We wanted to win but Basel played well, they had a fantastic night and they are probably one of the strongest teams we’ve seen at White Hart Lane.

“We had a two-goal disadvantage to overcome to get back into the game, we managed to do that and that leaves us with the possibility of still going through. It’s still there to be played for in the second leg.

“We recognise we have to do better and by this game, we are able to study and do our jobs better in the second leg.

“Everything is still open. Everyone believes. We’ve drawn at home but we’ve been good away from home this season, we always score away and we have to believe in that to get the goals we need to go through.”
