Ligue 1 week 6: OGC Nice 4-0 AS Monaco

In a Ligue 1 outrageously dominated by Paris Saint-Germain for the past few years, AS Monaco and Nice have been the surprised of this early season. The former beat Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley on the Opening day of the Champions League while the latter is leading Ligue 1 after 5 games played. One reason is Mario Balotelli. “Super Mario” is back! He has scored 4 goals in two games played in Ligue 1 (two braces vs. Marseille and Monaco). This is the same total of goals he had accumulated in the 44 games prior to his transfer to Nice.

Lucien Favre (OGC Nice coach): “We decided to press high and it was Monaco who made the running and swept us from left to right. But we managed to really start playing and we scored from a set piece. In fact, we scored at important moments and that made the difference. The scoreline is pretty severe but in the end, we scored four great goals.

Mario Balotelli scored another double. Everyone knows he has work to do in terms of his movement. He just has to realise the importance of preparation, sleep, recovery and work with his teammates.”

Leonardo Jardim (AS Monaco coach): “Defeat is never a good thing, but our seven wins in a row in all competitions didn’t change anything. It’s a rough night tonight. We dropped three points.”
