8 games played in MLS draw first conclusions.
New York FC and Sporting Kansas respectively lead each Conference with 17 points in 8 games played, closely followed by Atlanta United that just win on LA Galaxy‘s turf. The NYC team coached by French legend Patrick Viera is proving to be a strong outsider to counter Toronto FC hegemony in the Eastern Conference.
Toronto FC need to drastically improve from their bottom position having lost 4 out their 5 fist MLS season games. The 2017 champions are in trouble in this early season and look to turn thighs around quickly.
In the Western Conference, Sporting KC already enjoyed a five-point lead over the new comers Los Angeles FC. With no home field yet, the new MLS club will have their home opener in the brand new Banc of California stadium on April 29, and have won 4 out their fist 6 MLS games, and all on the road… not bad!
Coach NYCFC – Viera on the current form:
“The team is feeling good. We have a really good spirit. We came early to give ourselves the best way to prepare the game. It’s a really important game for us and we want to give ourselves the best chance to perform.
“It’s a difficult game again, it’s a difficult place to come and to try to play well. When you’ve got the stadium and the fans around, it’s a difficult place to come and try to win. We’re in a really good moment so it’s important for us to concentrate on the game and try to play well as a team.”
Coach Sporting KC Vermes on leading the West:
“When you’re playing against a group of guys that are just looking to defend their goal, it’s not easy to break through. The good thing is that we got some good possession in the game and we found a couple more goals with aggressive movement. We finished out the game and that was what we needed to do.
Obviously, these are a big three points. This is our eighth game. We knew that they were right close to us. We wanted to spread it out a little bit. Getting these points at home were really important.”
