Tottenham new boy, Gylfi Sigurdsson, has admitted that he is looking to establish himself as an important part of the Spurs side, following his arrival in the summer.

The Icelandic midfielder got his Tottenham career off to the best possible start with a goal on his ‘debut’, as Andre Villas-Boas’ side cruised to a 2-0 pre-season friendly win against Stevenage.

Sigurdsson looked a very classy customer during his first start in a Spurs shirt, a performance that bodes very well for the upcoming season.

The £8million signing from Hoffenheim proved, last season, when on loan at Swansea, that he has the ability to be a real success in the Premier League, attracting more than one interested party during the summer, and more than a few views on the Bet365 Youtube channel.

Villas-Boas got his man, despite interest from Liverpool, and it now looks as though the 22-year old may be tasked with stepping in to fill the shoes left by Luka Modric, who is on the verge of sealing a move away from White Hart Lane.

That may be a big ask for the youngster, but there are many who believe that Sigurdsson has everything needed to do the job, if that is the case.

Without Modric’s passing ability, Sigurdsson’s game is more attacking than the Croatian playmaker. The Icelandic international is very much a goalscoring midfielder, but Sigurdsson may be asked to adapt his game if Villas-Boas does decide to task the new signing with replacing Modric.

Wherever he is asked to play, the exciting midfielder has the ability to establish himself as a real fan favourite at White Hart Lane, over the next few years. A lot of clubs wanted Sigurdsson; now, the new arrival will be hoping to prove just why he was so in-demand, this summer.
