Chelsea boss Jose Mourninho has given Wayne Rooney 48 hours to decide on his future otherwise he will give up on the player.
The Manchester United striker played in his side’s 0-0 draw with the Blues on Monday evening at Old Trafford.
It was his first competitive start of the season under David Moyes as the new Reds’ boss showed how much the reigning Premier League champions are committed to keep their player.
Chelsea have already had one bid rejected this summer for the England man, thought to be in the region of £30 million. Moyes though has not once changed his stance that the player will not be moving clubs in this transfer window.
The draw last night has lifted Mourinho’s side back to the top of the Premier League table and ensures they remain unbeaten after three games. If they do decide to give up on Rooney, they could look to Samuel Eto’o to bolster their forward options. The former Barcelona striker currently applies his trade in Russia for Anzhi Makhachkala and played under the Portuguese man at Inter Milan.
United, on the other hand, are still waiting to add to their squad before the summer window closes on September 2. They submitted a joint bid for Everton’s Leighton Baines and Marouane Fellaini last week but the £28 million tabled for the pair was labelled as ‘derisory and insulting’ by the Merseyside club.
The Reds have already missed out on targets Cesc Fabregas and Thiago so far this summer and soccer betting pundits suggest that they are likely to make a new and improved offer for Moyes’ former players.
Their next tie in the league is a trip to Anfield to take on Liverpool who have started their campaign with a 100% record so far; they are not expected to surrender it, according to fans who bet on soccer.
