Coach Ancelotti reacts:
“It was a tough game and we played well. We fought hard and showed character. I was happy with the team throughout the game”. We had a lot of chances in the second half. Having to hang on for the last few minutes isn’t strange because Sevilla are a taller side and it’s only normal that we would struggle a bit with dead ball situations. We fought until the end and were deserved winners. Everything went to plan in that sense”.
Players out
“We lost some very important players but I won’t rue over that. I have a lot of faith in the others. The Nacho-Varane partnership did extremely well and I have a lot of faith in them. We are going to appeal the Marcelo yellow card because it wasn’t a foul. We lose some experienced heads but sometimes an injection of enthusiasm is a good thing. Ramos and Pepe are two of the best players in the world in their position, but I’m not worried”.
“Sergio had a problem in his hamstring but we can’t evaluate him right now, we’ll have to wait a few days. James had a problem in his right foot, I don’t know exactly what it entails but he’s certain to miss the derby. Coentrão will be available. He worked with Cristiano this morning and I think he can play”.
The derby
“It is important because the last few matches against them haven’t gone very well for us. It is important that we put an end to this bad run of form and do our best to win. It will be a very complicated match but we are confident that we’ll be able to change things up for this game. We are not thinking about how much we can extend our lead over Atlético. We are fully motivated because this is the Madrid derby”.
