La Liga week 31: Real Madrid 1-1 Atletico Madrid / Malaga 2-0 Barcelona

Tonight La Liga might be over. Barcelona was informed of the draw conceded by Real Madrid in the derby and the Blaugrana had the chance to take the lead in the league with a win. Real Madrid has one game in hand over Barcelona to play later. Therefore Barcelona is virtually 6 points behind Madrid with only 7 matches to play…

Coach Real Zidane comments the draw:

“It’s a tough game to read. We put in a great performance but with five minutes to go we lacked that bit of concentration. You couldn’t say that Atlético put in a great performance, we certainly did but we had to get that second goal, which would have given us that peace of mind. We were then made to suffer and we didn’t defend too well on one move and they’re capable of making things tough for you”.

A second goal would have put us at ease. We had the chances to have got it. In the final minutes, we lacked that little bit extra in all areas. We have to be relaxed and think about Wednesday’s game and go out and try to win it, as we always do.

We got a draw today, but I think that it’s a case of two points dropped. With the performance that we put in, we could have picked up all three points. The other day the score against Alavés flattered us a bit, but today we deserved to have got more. This is the way things go in football, we drew the game but this changes nothing. The fight for the LaLiga title will go right to the wire”.

For Barcelona, this is a costly defeat on top of Neymar being sent off and will be suspended for the next game. A night to forget. Is La Liga over?

Barcelona coach Enrique comments on the loss and La Liga:

“We gave everything and it is a shame because we deserved to win and we needed the points. I am delighted with the fight shown by my players and their attitude today. We know how difficult it would be and we began the game well. We had chances to take the lead in the first half but Málaga opened the scoring with their first attack.”
