Reaction to Bayern v Dortmund

Bayern coach Carlo Ancelotti: “It was a very good match. The first half was hotly-contested as Dortmund were dangerous up front, they had good chances. Robben’s goal was decisive, we were in control of the match after that. But it was balanced before his goal. It’s a good result for us after a good performance.”

Arjen Robben: “We really turned in a very good and intense display. It’s nice if you’re up against so strong opponents and play like this. We’re in for a nice month. We have to be up for it then, and we were today. We left our opponents no chance. With a little more luck we could have scored more goals in the first half. A 4-1 scoreline, a clear-cut, superb win. It’s fun. It boosts our confidence.”

Jérôme Boateng: “We wanted to lay down a marker after Tuesday. We played well against strong opponents today, we controlled the match. Dortmund only had one gilt-edged chance. We were in the lead, it was 3-1, but Dortmund had a big chance. We had to be highly alert, we should have stifled their counter-attack. We mustn’t attack recklessly.”

Thomas Tuchel (Borussia Dortmund coach): “I’d have been surprised at anything other than this dominance and this result. Bayern are playing at the absolutely highest level. Taken altogether we had no chance to match Bayern’s level today. We must get over the match. We did a good job over certain periods. We were ultimately unable to take points from here. It’s a bitter experience.”

Roman Bürki (Borussia Dortmund keeper): “We did a good job in the first half, we might have overcome them then. It’s bitter to be two down after ten minutes, but we fought our way back. With a little luck we could have levelled the scores. I’m disappointed with the result, the scoreline’s a little too high. They made use of their chances, we didn’t. We had little of the ball in the second half.”
