Champions League day 2: Borussia Dortmund 1-3 Real Madrid
On his 400th appearance with Real Madrid, Cristiano Ronaldo scored two more goals with the current UCL champions. He has now scored 411 goals with Real Madrid. More importantly he lifted Real to a very important win to take control of the group tied with Tottenham.
Coach Zidane is very happy on how his team played:
“The important thing is that we perform well and score goals. I’m delighted for Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo. They read the game really well. Ultimately we come away with a very good result at what’s a tough place to come to. We had never won here before and this is a significant result. We put in a really good performance from start to finish.
We managed the game very well in the middle third, particularly in terms of the pressure we applied. The key was to get the ball off Dortmund. Our first-half performance was stunning. This is a tough place to come and they’re a side that can make your life difficult, but we delivered a great performance. It’s just three more points, but it’s a win at a ground where we’d never managed to claim victory before and that now gives us six points in the Champions League.
We’ve played a lot games like this in other competitions. We’ve got another game on Sunday and we’ll be looking to do the same at home. The Champions League is special but for us so are all of them. We can be happy with what we’ve done because it’s not an easy place to come. We put in a massive effort and were richly rewarded.
We already seen a lot of Dortmund and they play a very open game. Playing against Real Madrid like that is difficult because we had possession of the ball and we also knew when to counter-attack. We read the game very well”.
