La Liga game 9

Real Madrid lost at home to Levante 2-1 and are in a very delicate situation in La Liga. The winless streak extended to five games in the League while the coach is more than likely to be sacked judging the terrible start of the season for the World champions.

The coach tries to find answers

Real Madrid coach, Lopetegui on the difficult situation:

“Football matches are won by scoring goals and not according to who deserves to win. We did what we needed to do because we had 34 or 35 shots on goals, 14 or 15 of which were on target. We had goals ruled out, hit the woodwork three times.

The stats aren’t worth much at all, what counts are the goals. We attacked a lot and looked dangerous. This is the way things go in football.

I’ve told you what happened. We’re feeling down after not having picked up the three points. We did enough to have won the game and comfortably so, but that’s the way things go in football and it’ll have to repay us for what it’s not rewarding us for at the moment.

The players had to rediscover their composure and in the end, we only converted one of our chances. We’ve got to change the dynamic by getting things right and winning games of football. We attacked a lot and looked dangerous.

I want to thank the fans for how they behaved, they were amazing. They believed until the end and were with us as we tried to come back. The team are going to give everything in every game and we’re sure that we will turn it around.

The team didn’t make a bad start. We conceded when we were on top. Mistakes happen in football and mistakes hurt you. We were unlucky when we were in good positions and after they’d had one shot on goal were 2-0 down”.

On his future with the club:

“I’m more motivated than ever. The last thing I’m thinking about is that. I worry about quickly picking up the boys and keep believing because it’s the only way to change this run. We have to prepare ourselves for the next game”.
