Premier League matchday 28
The Premier League midweek games saw the leaders taking the three points for all teams but Tottenham Hotspur. Indeed the Spurs suffered their 8th loss of the season at Chelsea 2-0.
Liverpool had no problem getting the best of Watford in rout of an easy victory 5-0. The Reds remain the leader in the Premier League. Coach Klopp was very content: “It was exactly the game we wanted. But let’s start like this, in a game you win 5-0 and everyone has performed on a really, really high level. We have to play football and win games then we will see what happens.
It is not I go in the dressing room and someone tells me the [Man City] result and I have a heart attack. It is just a normal thing if you are top of the table it is pretty likely the contenders all win.”
Manchester City struggled at time but still came up with a tight win 1-0 over West Ham.
The Citizens are just a point behind Liverpool. Man City coach, Guardiola, knows the title will be played until the season ends:
“When you play every three days, in March and April, it is demanding. Everybody needs a little break and we need everybody to help fight for all the titles still in our hands.
Now we have a gap between the top two and third. Many things are going to happen. We will drop points and I think Liverpool will drop points. The important thing now is to refresh and recover for Bournemouth.
We created a lot of chances in the first five minutes. Of course, we didn’t score enough goals for the way we played but the way we defend the second balls was incredible.
We conceded just one shot on target. After 120 mins on Sunday, we made an incredible performance.”
Arsenal took control of the fourth place in rout of the Saints 5-1. Coach Emery comments on the important win to stay in contact wth the top teams: “It was an important match and we spoke yesterday with respect for Southampton but also thinking that we need a supportive mentality for the match today. I think the players were thinking for us and our three points here with our supporters and here in our stadium.
We created chances and I think today we could have won by more than two goals. I think we need to continue with this spirit to play with this intensity and to keep it up for 90 minutes. We need to create chances and goals are coming.
Manchester United is the only team in the top six to win away from home at Crystal Palace 3-1. The Red Devils remain a point behind Arsenal, sitting at the fifth rank. Coach Solskjaer commented:
“It’s a great away win. We controlled it well. That’s a few away wins on the bounce. There was no complacency whatsoever. Everyone was really focused before the game. We started the game well and we should have scored early on from a corner-kick, Rom, but then, after 1-0, I thought we controlled the game.
”We defended our box well. Crystal Palace only had one shot on target today, that was the goal, so you’ve got to say our defending is improving all the time.”
