Manchester City took a giant step towards securing the Premier League title with a thumping 4-1 victory over Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium. The Citizens were in dominant form from start to finish, with two goals from Kevin De Bruyne and one from Erling Haaland.
The game started at a frenetic pace, with both teams exchanging early blows. However, it was Manchester City who took an early lead in the first half, with De Bruyne scoring a stunning goal on the counter-attack. Arsenal tried to respond, but their efforts were thwarted by a resolute City defense.
Not much life in Arsenal
The second half saw Manchester City step up a gear, with De Bruyne adding his second goal of the game. The Belgian midfielder scored leaving the Arsenal goalkeeper with no chance. Arsenal pulled one back and tried to fight back, but any hopes of a comeback were dashed when City scored their fourth goal. Haaland showed his predatory instincts by pouncing on a loose ball in the box and firing home to finish off the Gunners.
City boss Guardiola on the win:
“Until today I prefer the position for Arsenal because if Arsenal beat us it is in their hands. Now it is in our destiny.
I have a feeling the next three games will dictate a lot. Fulham has come from the Championship and this season has been amazing. We play at home against Leeds and West Ham. We feel comfortable here with the crowd.
The next three games will be really important,” he added. “The most important thing is that destiny is in our hands, it depends on us but we still have seven games.”
The win leaves Manchester City with a chance to keep their title hopes alive, being two points behind Arsenal with two games in hand. With players like De Bruyne and Haaland firing on all cylinders, it looks like City will be retaining their domestic title once more.
