Premier League day 4:

Leicester 1-2 Liverpool
Chelsea 2-0 Bournemouth

Liverpool and Chelsea have won the first four games in this new Premier League season and lead the standings with 12 points. The two clubs put pressure on Manchester City and Tottenham before heading to the international break and the beginning of the UEFA Nations League.

Coach Klopp, Liverpool FC

“Result-wise it could not have been better. Performance-wise, we know we can improve and we really know that we could have already done better. Again, the start today showed how good we can be but it’s still early in the season – so we are not 100 per cent stable in these situations to do the right things constantly.

It was a bit difficult; when the pitch got drier and drier, it changed our game. We should not suffer from that too much but we did, it changed our game. We should have been much more direct, playing in behind, and use these situations much more than the other way around. But we scored a nice goal and we had the two biggest chances of the game before that already.

We scored a second one before half-time and then wanted to control the game better in the second half. Then we gave the goal away, which obviously keeps the game open and we have to deal with that. We fought for the three points, that’s how it should be. And that’s why we won the game.”

Coach Sarri, Chelsea FC

“I am happy with the result and performance,’ said the Italian. ‘It was a very difficult game, they are very organised in the defensive phase, they defended very well.

‘In the first half it was difficult and maybe we needed to move the ball at a higher speed and have some better movements, but in this kind of match usually you can win in the last 20 or 25 minutes.’

‘At the moment I’m very happy with my players. They are doing very well in the week and in matches. I’m really very happy to have points from four matches but I always think we can do more, we can improve.

‘Now for us it’s better to think only about the next match. The gap at the beginning was 30 points (behind Manchester City last season) so it’s very difficult to recover this gap in only one season, but I’m very happy with the four matches.”
