Major League Soccer team Philadelphia Union has signed an extension to its shirt sponsorship deal with Bimbo Bakeries.
The US bakery company, part of Mexico’s Bimbo Group, has featured on the front of Philadelphia Union’s playing jerseys since 2011.
The new deal will run for five years, from 2014-15 to 2018-19.
Financial terms were not official disclosed, but the Philadelphia Business Journal said that the deal is worth $11m (€8.2m) in total.
Bimbo is an established sponsor of football teams in Latin America through deals with Mexican clubs Chivas Guadalajara, Monterrey and Club America, Costa Rica’s Saprissa, Isidro Metapan of El Salvador and Panama’s San Francisco.
Philadelphia Union marked its first move into the MLS, while it also sponsors New York-based USL Professional Division team Rochester Rhinos.
