Paris Saint-Germain Kick-off With Clean Sheet, Without Neymar

The two times French champions, PSG started its Ligue 1 season at home against Nîmes and easily won 3-0. Cavani, Mbappé and Di Maria scored the goals for PSG whereas the Brazilian superstar Neymar was not with the team. 

Neymar’s departure from PSG is in the minds of everyone and the story of the summer in France. The Brazilian did not participate in the triumph of his country at Copa America and have been rumored to go back to FC Barcelona or maybe sign with Real Madrid. 

At Parc des Princes stadium, PSG fans show their disgust against the star and asked me to leave the club. The star in Paris is French World Cup champion Kylian Mbappé. It is better for everybody, the club and Neymar that the Brazilian moves on after being bought for over $245m from Barcelona two seasons ago. 

PSG added over the summer pieces to its midfield with two players from the Premier League (Andes Herrera, from Manchester United and Idrissa Gueye from Everton) in hopes to solidify an area that showed deficiencies in the past. With the probable departure of Neymar, PSG’s recruiting unit will be able to add to an already competitive squad for Ligue 1 and Champions League. 

Coach Tuchel comments on the game:

It was a near-perfect evening. There are always things to improve, but we controlled the match well. Certain players only resumed training with us ten days ago, so I’m very happy with what we did tonight. We kept our structure and we kept on our pressing. That allowed us to win the ball back higher up the pitch and quicker and this was a deserved win.

Italian midfielder Verrati added:

It’s a real pleasure to be back at the Parc and start a new season here. We had a good month of pre-season training and now we’re into the competition. It’s always good to start at home and with a win, we are very happy to be back with our fans. We hope this will be a great season.
