2019-20 Ligue 1 matchday 2
Rennes shock Ligue 1 by beating PSG 2-1 after just two games played in the Ligue. Last year it took 23 games to see PSG lose for the first time in France [at Lyon 2-1]. Rennes already created an upset last year when the club from Brittany won the French Cup over PSG in the penalty shootouts.
16 years old youngster Camavinga was incredible for Rennes and we might see one of the most promising talents in Europe right now. PSG have had an eventful summer and still nobody knows when Neymar’s future will be. If he leaves, the club would have to compensate his departure. If he stays how is his past injury feels and when is he ready to play?
PSG are still the heavy favorites to win Ligue 1 but this defeat did raise early doubts while a team like Lyon scored 9 goals in two games without conceding any.
PSG coach and captain share their views post-game
Coach Tuchel on the loss:
“It was difficult to create space, because Rennes got a lot of men behind the ball in their 5-3-2. They ran a lot and gave everything to be able to match us. We had trouble finding space between the lines and on the flanks. We opened the scoring and had the chance to get a second. We didn’t kill the game off and conceded once and then again. That made things tougher. After that, we didn’t manage to find a way through. We need to find solutions. It’ll come little by little.”
“It was a difficult game, it’s tough to talk about it. We opened the scoring and then dropped off a bit and we lacked concentration. It’s a shame. It’s difficult when you concede right at the end of the half and then concede again early in the second half. We weren’t switched on.
