Seattle Sounders FC forward Fredy Montero has been loaned to Portugal’s Sporting Lisbon, the club announced today. Sporting Lisbon will have an option to buy Montero on a permanent transfer. The loan is pending receipt of his International Transfer Clearancefrom Colombia to Portugal.

 

Montero, 25, has been on loan with Millonarios FC of the Colombian first division since January. He started 19 of 21 appearances and scored a team-high seven goals with two assists for Millonarios during the 2012-13 season.

 

Montero is Seattle’s all-time leading scorer with 47 goals in MLS play. Overall, he scored 60 goals with 43 assists across all competitions to lead the team. A three-time MLS All-Star and 2009 MLS Newcomer of the Year, Montero recorded 23 game-winning goals and 12 game-winning assists across all competitions in his four seasons with Sounders FC.
