While the Dutch coach Louis Van Gaal is still in Brazil trying to qualify Netherlands as head coach to the World Cup semifinals; Midfielder Michael Carrick talks about the changes and new signings.

Michael Carrick:

on last season…

“Looking back, it was a disappointing campaign, but we’ve got to learn from it. Never stop learning and take what we can. We’ve certainly still got enough quality in the squad – regardless of who is coming in this summer – to be up there challenging again.”

On Herrera..

“I’ve played against him and he’s a terrific player. The more quality you have, the better. He is certainly right up there. I’m sure he’s looking forward to starting, getting the first game under his belt and fitting in. We’ll certainly make him feel as welcome as we can.”

Van Gaal is likely to make changes to the Reds squad after his World Cup campaign with the Netherlands finishes, but Carrick, who is about to start his ninth campaign at Old Trafford, insists he’ll maintain the same desire to impress during pre-season.

“I’m not going into this season any different to how I have any other,” he said. “Whether you win or lose, the next season you’ve got to start again, doing it all over again.

“Last season counts for nothing, for everyone. We go into this fresh and really positive and looking forward to a successful campaign.”
