Premier League 2019-2020
Manchester City and Liverpool are back where they left off. The European champions started the season with a promising 4-1 win over Norwich. Mo Salah and the rest of Reds gave the fans four goals in the season opener. After a slow preparation, Liverpool is ready for another title race.
Coach Klopp comments on the Reds first win:
I think the first 60 minutes were pretty impressive. If you are surprised that Norwich use little moments for being dangerous as well, I’m not – that’s how they are. That’s really good and still for 60 minutes we did what we had to do. We could have scored more, especially after half-time and that would maybe then impress the opponent a bit more.
Passion makes a difference in these moments, that’s what you have to show and I liked a lot the work-rate we put in and the respect we showed them. There’s actually nothing bad to say about the game apart from Ali’s injury.
That’s all good. We are early in the season and some mistakes happen that will not happen during the season. But it’s all good. If somebody would have told me before the game we would win 4-1, I would have taken it easily.
So do Manchester City
the Premier League champions wasted no time to respond with an explosive 5-0 win at West Ham. Proof that after clinching the Community Shield the week prior, the Citizens and Raheem Sterling know the title race will be tight again this year.
Coach Guardiola on the first win:
“In the first half we were sloppy in the precision and accuracy of our passes. But that’s normal. I knew it, we talked about it.
The rhythm was not there but that’s normal for the first game. In the second half we were better, we were more calm, we played extra passes. After we went 3-0 up the game was over.
But I cannot deny it, I’m delighted to win 5-0 away from home in the first game. We finished last season by winning 14 games in a row. It’s 15 now unbeaten so it’s good.
Raheem Sterling looked very sharp already and scored a hat-trick in the opener. The English forward can go for League’s best player title:
It feels good but the important thing today was starting well as a team and getting the win and the three points. That’s what we’ve done and it’s a great way to start the season.
It’s always good to score goals but at the same time you want to get a run of clean sheets going as well and long may it continue.”
