Juventus and Napoli are within 1 point
Juventus 0-1 Napoli. Napoli probably won the biggest game of their season and punished a Juventus team that was playing for the scoreless draw. Indeed, with a few minutes left in the game, defender Koulibaly powered a header into Buffon‘s net to claim a must-needed victory.
With only 4 games to play both club are within one point, Juventus having a small edge over their rivals with 85 and 84 points respectively. The end of Serie A season will be an excitement as Napoli try to stop Juventus reign over the last 6 seasons.
Juventus Coach Allegri reacts on the situation with 4 games to play:
“We have to get over this one quickly. Anything can happen in a one-off head-to-head. We struggled a little towards the end but we needed to see the game out. It was a match we didn’t want to lose but let’s not forget that we’re still a point ahead and we just need to hold onto our lead.
We have two home games and two away games left, starting at San Siro, and next week will be a decisive game for us. Napoli deserve credit for getting themselves back into the Scudetto running. They’re good with the ball but this match was basically decided by a single moment.
Neither side played pretty football today. We should have done better in possession and not rushed around so much when they had it. As I said, we should have played differently in the last few minutes and not allowed them opportunities like what turned out to be the decisive one.
The title race will go down to the wire because there are no easy matches for either side. We have a week to prepare for another big match now. We just need to get our heads down and focus on that.”
Napoli coach Sarri on the memorable evening:
“It was a huge joy and a wonderful gift that our fans deserved. Napoli are the symbol of an entire population who follow us always and everywhere. This win here tonight is hugely satisfying for us and for them.
We’ve won here in one of the most significant arenas in Europe, against a team that has won six league titles on the bounce – they could also win a seventh. Juventus are still in first place. We will carry on giving 110%, but Juventus are ahead of us and their win percentage is impressive. We’ll do all we can but it all depends on them.
“We’re facing Fiorentina on Sunday, and I’ve never won in Florence since managing Napoli. So it will be a really tough game, as it always is, and we need to start thinking about how we’ll go about it.”
