Premier League week 9: Tottenham Hotspur 4-1 Liverpool FC
Harry Kane scores a brace and delivers an assist in a matchup controlled by Tottenham. The Spurs join Man Utd at the second place of the table five points behind the leader City. It took only 4 minutes for Harry Kane to find the net and Son doubled the lead at the 12th minute. Salah who has been the best Liverpool’s palyer so far this year put his team back on rail but the Spurs’ offense submerged Liverpool’s porous defense. After the 5-0 defeat at City before the international break, this is another big blow for coach Klopp and his ambitions.
Coach Spurs, Pochettino on the well-managed victory:
“It was an unbelievable performance, I’m very pleased and I’d like to congratulate our players for a fantastic effort. I’d like to thank our fans again, 80,000 fans helping us and it’s so good because the result will help give us the confidence we need for the rest of the season. We start to feel Wembley can be our home.
I’m so happy with our players, their effort is fantastic. We demand a lot and they are pushing, working so hard and they deserve the credit because they deliver the job on the pitch. We have to keep going now. We have so many important games ahead, next a massive game against West Ham that we want to win. We want to win every game.”
Coach Liverpool, Klopp on the loss:
“It’s all our responsibility, what you saw today. It’s not a nice statistic. Today you saw two teams with a lot of potential; I don’t use this to say that we were good or whatever, because we weren’t, it’s only that everybody could see the potential, even of my side. But in all the decisive moments we were not there. It’s difficult to talk about because I don’t want to create headlines, which don’t help us, but today it was just poor defending in all parts and the decisive parts it was like this.
We have to prove that we are better defenders than we showed today, than we showed in another game. Part of the statistic is that we have three unbelievably big scoresheets with Watford, City and today – that alone is 12 goals we’ve conceded, that’s crazy. You don’t have to talk about quality; if they didn’t have quality, they would not be involved in the squad of Liverpool, 100 per cent.
We are ninth and we have the worst statistics since 1964 – I can’t believe. We are where we are, so we deserve that. If Tottenham needed to be genius to come through then we don’t have to talk. But if you make these easy mistakes… yes, of course, the last line is involved, but then also centre mid is involved.”
