Premier League week 9: Everton 2-5 Arsenal

Against Everton, currently a club in distress, Arsenal won their first away game this season in the Premier League. For the first time the trio Lacazette-Sanchez-Ozïl played together and the result was pretty convincing. This games comes as a reference for the Gunners on his manager 68th birthday.

Coach Wenger relates on the win:

“I feel the whole team played well. We were tested mentally when we were 1-0 down after a very good start in the game. We couldn’t finish, their keeper kept them in the game and suddenly we were 1-0 down. It was a mental test but we kept going, we kept our focus and slowly the quality of our movement, the quality of our passing gave Everton problems. After that, with the offensive strength we have, of course that made the difference.

it’s funny because until now, I felt that we dominated the game at Stoke, at Watford as well, and were punished for every single mistake. We couldn’t finish our chances but today we created more – I think we had [28] shots on goal and away from home, that’s an impressive number.

I think the quality [from the team] was there today and we had all kinds of tests because we were 1-0 down after having started well, so it was a good mental test. After that, offensively and defensively, we played very well on the whole and it was good, our quality of passing was good, finishing maybe we could have done a little bit better if you want to be absolutely harsh, but overall we had the quality.

We just played at Belgrade and won 1-0 with 10 completely different players. We have quality, but what is very important is our team play. After that, at the end of our team play, if we have players of Ozil’s quality, you want always the best possible individual quality. When you look, I had Giroud on the bench, I had Walcott on the bench, I had Wilshere on the bench, I had Iwobi on the bench. Offensively, it’s top quality.”

With the win Arsenal come back to 4th place tied with Chelsea.
