The world has been shocked by the announcement of German international and Hanover 96 goalkeeper Robert Enke’s apparent suicide. Enke was hit by a train Tuesday night at a railway crossing in his hometown Neustadt-Eilvese, some 45 km (28 miles) near the Lower Saxony capital of Hanover. Sources say that a suicide note was found. Enke who had been struggling with depression since 2003 was in the running for the starting goalkeeper position at World Cup 2010.

I am endlessly saddened by this,” former Germany coach Franz Beckenbauer said. “When you receive such news all other things do not matter.”

Since the news was broken, countless numbers of fans and supporters have been flocking to the scene of the death and Hanover offices to mourn the death of Enke.
