Teams Will Work with Gatorade Scientists to Optimize Performance
NEW YORK, Aug. 10 /PRNewswire/ — When two great soccer teams meet at the Meadowlands Aug. 10, one thing will be constant: their performances will be fueled by Gatorade®. As the leading sports performance innovator, and the No. 1 sports drink in the world, Gatorade will fuel athletes before, during and after the official friendly between the U.S. and Brazil National soccer teams, and scientists from the Gatorade Sports Science Institute (GSSI) will test select players following the game to better understand how optimal sports nutrition can help fuel their best performance.
While at the Gatorade Performance Lab (GPL), athletes will undergo tests that estimate the amount of energy used (caloric expenditure) and the source of the energy used (carbohydrate) during physical activity. Scientists also will be using the BOD POD to estimate body composition. These tests are designed to help them understand how their bodies work so they can optimize their performance on the field.
“Gatorade knows getting that competitive edge is as much about what you put into your body as what you put on it,” said Melissa Tippet, senior scientist, GSSI. “Through years of working with hundreds of elite and amateur athletes from all over the world, we understand how to help athletes perform at their best during their workouts and competitions.”
With more than 40 years of expertise in sports nutrition and hydration, the GSSI is at the forefront of sports performance science and education to help athletes understand their individual sports performance needs. Athletes including Peyton Manning, Derek Jeter and Dwight Howard have participated in testing activities to understand their challenges with fatigue and develop solutions to maintain optimal performance.
“Research findings show that soccer players face challenges which may impact performance. In fact, research shows soccer players can lose up to 2-3 liters of sweat per game,” added Tippet. “Findings from the Athlete Performance Testing will educate these players about how their bodies function during exercise and help them customize an approach to boost their performance on the field.”
Teams will have the opportunity to use the new G Series – an innovative line of products supported by the latest sports science to provide fuel, fluid and nutrients before, during and after activity.
