FC Barcelona win La Liga at Riazor

Messi and Iniesta have won together a record 9 La Liga titles for the club. Barcelona have led La Liga from start to finish and are still undefeated in the league this season.

Messi scored a hat-trick on the night to celebrate the 25th La Liga title and the seventh in the last 10 seasons. The Argentine had some praizes to go to Iniesta who announced earlier during the week he will leave the club at the end of the season:

Lionel Messi:

“Iniesta deserves to leave like this. He goes with a double that is more than merited, even though we would have liked him to depart with the treble. We wish him all the best.

I am really happy to have won this league title. We know how difficult it is to win it and we have to appreciate it and celebrate it. I think we have been much better than the rest of our rivals. We have not lost many games in all competitions.”

Coach Valaverde added:

I’m delighted because this has been a very long competition that we have been chasing since the moment we went to the top of the table. At last we’ve taken that final step towards becoming champions. We have been the best team. The way we have played has been extraordinary.

“We are so pleased to have had such a good season. This was no one-day job. It’s taken lots of days and lots of matches. What we have to do now is celebrate it with our people.

But things don’t end here. We would love to complete an unbeaten season and set a new record. I have tried to make sure that the team sticks together, especially through the more difficult times. They have been strong and they have been brilliant.”

The hard thing isn’t winning the league – it’s winning the league again.”
