Tottenham Hotspur striker, Jermain Defoe, has revealed he is excited ahead of the new season despite the speculation from the football betting linking Gareth Bale with a move away from the club.
Andre Villas-Boas’ side just missed out on the Champions League when they were pipped by bitter rivals Arsenal after the Gunners finished the 2012/13 season strong.
With the disappointment still lingering around the club, Daniel Levy and Villas-Boas have worked hard to improve their squad to make sure they give themselves the best chance to qualify for the biggest European competition.
Defoe admits it was disappointing to miss out last season but he is impressed with the response from the club.
“Yes, people may say that we missed out on Champions League football last season,” he told the Daily Mirror.
“But you look at the way the club has responded and straight away, you are excited about the way the team is being structured to go again.”
Spurs continue to be linked with a number of top players in the Live football commentary but speculation in the English press suggests that Spurs may lose Bale to Real Madrid.
Roberto Soldado is still a target for the North London club and he could join Paulinho from Corinthians and Nacer Chadli from FC Twente who have already joined in this transfer window.
Defoe, who will be looking to seal his place at the 2014 World Cup with England, admits that the new additions are a great move for the club.
He added: “You’re talking about three top players who are going to take Tottenham to the next level.
“Out of those three players, only Chadli has actually joined the squad so far but I’ve already told him the team spirit is incredible and that he will love it here.”
