Mexico City and McAllen, Texas – Club Deportivo Cruz Azul will host Club America this Sunday on week ten of the Mexican Apertura. This “Clasico” match rivalry has been in favor of Club America for the last seven years. The last time that Cruz Azul triumphed over the “Azul Cremas” was in 2003. In that occasion, Francisco Palencia scored twice and Juan Carlos Cacho once to win the match 1-3 at the Monumental Azteca Stadium.
For this Mexican derby both clubs will have vital players serving red card suspensions. Cruz Azul’s goalkeeper Jesus Corona was suspended last week after he insulted a referee in stoppage time against Necaxa. Second choice Yosgart Gutierrez is expected to replace him in this significant match. On the other side, America will not count with Brazilian midfielder Rosinei Adolfo.
In the standing count, Cruz Azul stands top of group three of the Mexican Apertura with 21 points and a differential of +12. Club America is the runner-up of group two with 15 points, just one behind Deportivo Toluca.
Week 10 of the Mexican Apertura will also showcase: Estudiantes – Jaguares, San Luis – Tigres, Santos – Toluca, Monterrey – Necaxa, Atlante – Pachuca, Pumas – Morelia, Puebla – Queretaro, and Chivas – Atlas.
