Traffic on top
With the wins of Manchester City 5-0 against Burnley and Tottenham 1-0 at West Ham and Liverpool just behind there are four teams within two points. Arsenal could join the top 4 clubs with a win on Monday against Leicester.
Coach Chelsea Sarri on the last second draw:
“At this point of the season one point more or one point less is the same. I want to play every game for three points. Today I was happy with the performance for 60 minutes because for 60 minutes we played our football. Then after it was 1-1 we didn’t play our football, only long balls and we didn’t win the second balls. In this type of football United are better.
I’ve seen the match from the bench and now I want to study the second part of the match. They have to play my football with character. I think today, like against Arsenal, we played against a very strong team. And if you play against a very strong team and make some mistakes on the pitch it’s clear. Sometimes we’ve made the same mistakes but of course against other opponents it wasn’t clear.”
Mourinho thought he had the three points for Manchester United as he commented post-game:
“We were the best team on the pitch. If you say before the match one point at Stamford Bridge, it’s always a good result because it’s so difficult for teams to win here. But after the game, the way the game was, it’s an awful result for us and a phenomenal result for Chelsea.
It was different because against Newcastle, in the first half we weren’t there. In this match, we were there. We had lots of times with the ball in the last third and we weren’t aggressive enough with the ball to attack the spaces to have some mobility. But we were there, we were in the game. We controlled their triggers. Hazard was controlled and I’ve never seen Jorginho play so little like he did today, so we were completely in control.
We conceded a goal from a set-piece. We were in the game so the distance between the first and the second half was not as big as it was against Newcastle. But maybe after the 2-1, we had again great positions to score the third goal. We were the best team, we were calm, we had complete control and I hope every referee does the same as Mike Dean to give six minutes of injury time. Normally, when I’m losing, I never have five, six or seven minutes.”
