On Saturday, Charlie Davies made his first appearance for Sochaux since his involvement in a tragic car accident that took the life of a passenger and put Davies in the hospital with numerous life threatening injuries back in Oct. 2009. The US striker finally returned to France’s Ligue 1 after entering the pitch in the 78th minute against Stade Rennes with his club trailing 1-0.

However there was no heart-warming, goal-scoring story to go with his return to European action as there was when Davies took the field for DC United back in March. Instead Davies had minimal impact on the match as Sochaux dropped all 3 points, losing by the 1-0 scoreline. Sochaux currently occupy the last spot in the table with only 19 points on the season, putting themselves in real danger of relegation.
