Bundesliga week 31

Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich are chasing another Bundesliga title as both club top the German League. BVB had a great chance to regain the lead with just three more games to play when they faced Schalke 04 at home in the Ruhr derby. But the visitors upset the home fans with a big 4-2 victory.

The story of this game are the two red cards given to Borussia when the game was still very close at 1-2. Down to 9-men Dortmund had no chance and likely gave up today the Bundesliga title to Bayern Munich.

Coach BVB Favre on the tough loss:

“That’s extremely hard to take, above all given the way we played. We started really well, showed a lot of patience and scored a fantastic goal. Then five minutes later it’s up to the referee to have a look at a handball. Anyone who applies the handball rule like that doesn’t understand football. It’s an absolute disgrace.’

We’re pretty disappointed with ourselves as we didn’t manage to create enough chances. Despite dominating possession for long spells, we were never really able to put Schalke under pressure. Playing with nine men in the latter stages of the game was tough. We lost the derby – that’s hard to accept.

Obviously we had to try and win all of our matches in order to have a shot at realizing our dream If we don’t win our matches then it’s going to be hard to catch Bayern.’

FC Bayern will look to extend lead to 4 points with just four games to play. In other words Bayern Munich are two wins away from their 28th League title.
