2019 German Super

Two second-half goals gave Borussia Dortmund their 6th German Cup in club’s history and the first since 2014.

In front of the home crowd, the Yellow and Black were patient and took advantage of Bayern‘s defensive flaws to score two goals and they did not look back.

Coach Favre was very happy about the performance:

“We absolutely wanted to win this match. Bayern were very strong and had a lot of possession; 65 percent I think, that’s a lot. Nonetheless, we created clear goalscoring chances and defended patiently and very compactly. We performed very, very well.

Borussia Dortmund aim at the repeat in the German Cup and the also know how challenging it will be to win Bundesliga but they are ready to fight against their main rivals in Bayern.

Last season the two clubs were head-to-head until the few matchday in the league and Bayern Munich ultimately won the Bundesliga title.

Bayern Munich made mistakes that cost them the game and eventually the title as coach Kovac expresses:

“Of course we’re sad we lost the match today. I think we turned in a decent display, not a very good one, but decent. We were dominant, we made two mistakes Dortmund capitalized on. We failed to take our chances, which is why we lost the match. We’re in the fourth week of pre-season.

It was the first match where everyone played 90 minutes, you can’t expect more in this situation. I’m not dissatisfied, of course it wasn’t an outstanding performance. We must take our chances and not play into Dortmund’s hands, losing the ball and allowing counters.”
