Stoke City fans concerned the January transfer window will see the departure of in-form goalkeeper Asmir Begovic will be delighted with the news the 25-year-old has pledged his future to the club.

Begovic is currently enjoying a purple patch between the sticks for Stoke, keeping seven clean sheets in the Potters’ 15 league games. Yet this form has reportedly attracted interest from some of the Premier Leagues’ biggest clubs, with Betfair Football Betting forums naming Manchester United and Liverpool as potential suitors.

Yet Begovic has recently come out to insist he is going nowhere, with the Bosnia-Herzegovina international happy with his progress at Stoke.

“I am happy here so there are no issues with that,” he stated. “As far as I know it’s all speculation.

“I have three and a half years on my contract and I am concentrating on playing and staying in the team and trying to help the team be successful.”

His sentiments echo manager Tony Pulis’ words in a recent interview that confirmed Stoke will not sell any of their top players in January, a situation that suggests the Potters no longer concern themselves with Premier League survival and instead set out with greater ambitions.

For if their players are content Pulis must be something right to match their ambitions at the Staffordshire club. Stoke currently sit ninth in the table, ahead of both Liverpool and Arsenal and just four points off fifth place. They have made another solid start to their campaign and had decisions gone their way could well be higher in the league.

With January no threat, therefore, Stoke fans will be hoping to see some further investment in the squad when the transfer window opens. Rumoured to be chasing Southampton’s Ricky Lambert and with Darren Bent out of favour at Aston Villa, if Pulis is smart this New Year there is no knowing how far Stoke could rise.
