Fernando Torres just needs one goal

Coach Andre Villas-Boas feels that Torres is coming on form, and once he gets a goal there will be no stopping him.

He came so close in the match against Sunderland with an tremendous scissor kick which hit the underside of the cross bar, bounced off Lampard and went into the net for a goal.

Everyone said after the match that this was the best they have seen him play since his £50million move from Liverpool a year ago, as not only did he just fail to score but was denied two appeals for a penalty.

You hear this all the time about strikers that when they are scoring, the goals come easy, but when they are going through a drought like Torres they start to doubt themselves, and think too much rather than just being instinctive.

“He’s still not scoring but is ever so close to scoring, which is already good,” said Villas-Boas, who felt one goal could be the trigger for a glut to follow.

“Could happen. We will have to wait and see.

“Maybe a goal would help on the personal, inspiration level but we are not worried because he is doing well.

“Obviously, his confidence is improving and his form is improving.”

The Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas is positive that Torres will score soon given his current form.

“It’s down to luck when things like this happen,” he said.

“Of course, a goalscorer gets goals.

“But he’s very willing to change his fortune and I think the goals will come.”
