Champions League quarterfinals first leg:

Tottenham finished on top thanks to a goal in the last quarter of the game from Sun to beat Man City 1-0.

Playing in their brand new stadium for the second time, the Spurs have registered two wins and have yet to concede a goal [2-0, 1-0]. They will look to defend their slim advantage in Manchester when the two teams meet again for the return leg.

Tottenham coach, Pochettino, on the win:

“The performance was very good. It’s only the first leg and for me, City are still favorites but I am happy – happy with the performance, a good approach to the game from the beginning and we were so aggressive and clever in the way we played.

With belief and the way we played, with our quality we can beat any team. We’ve a lot of work to do, it will be tough but we believe and that’s so important. In football, if you have belief, faith and work hard, all is possible.

Now we need to recover the players and deliver again against Huddersfield on Saturday (Premier League at home, 12.30pm). That’s such an important game and three points. It will be tough and we need the same motivation and to play the same way. We are confident we can deliver the job again.”

Man City coach, Guardiola, on the loss:

It’s not the best result but not the worst one. You know in this competition when you want to go through into the last stages you have to make these kind of comebacks.

You don’t expect to arrive in a semi-final or quarter-final first leg we are going to win 0-3, that is a reality – it happens to many teams in many situations, but we have another option, another chance and that is the point.

“The second leg will be tough but we know what we have to do: score goals, play as well as possible and we’re going to try.”

City had the chance to go ahead in the first half, but Sergio Aguero’s penalty was saved by Hugo Lloris.

“We play to score a goal, unfortunately we couldn’t score but we have a second game.

“We’ll see what happens now, it looks a little bit more complicated, but every day, every hour that passes we will see it closer, and we are going to push each other and going to try.”
