Los Angeles, CA (March 20th, 2013) —Today two-time NBA MVP Steve Nash announced the seventh year of his popular charity soccer match, the Steve Nash FoundationShowdown, will return Wednesday, June 26, 2013, to New York City, and debut Sunday, July 14, 2013, in Los Angeles, a first for California and supported by AEG. Nash made the announcement today at a press event at The Salvation Army Red Shield Community & Youth Center in the Pico Union section of Downtown Los Angeles.

This year’s Showdowns are sponsored by Naked Pizza, AXS TV, MLS, Phebe’s Tavern and JAWBONE. Sponsorship information is available by contacting The Steve Nash Foundation.

Showdown is a fast-paced, competitive 8-a-side soccer match featuring NBA and professional soccer players, joining forces to support the Steve Nash Foundation’s work to benefit underserved children.  Following the match, Nash, fellow players, friends and fans will gather for Showdown After Hours, a cocktail party and live auction.  All proceeds from ticket, auction, and merchandise sales will benefit the Foundation’s work to increase access to high-quality early learning resources to children through Educare, and SNF’s platform to advance research around root causes of child abuse and trauma-informed care, ICAIV.

The Los Angeles and New York Showdowns will both be televised by Time Warner Cable on sports networks across the country. In Los Angeles and San Diego, the Showdowns will air on Time Warner Cable SportsNet and Time Warner Cable Deportes, as well as on Time Warner Cable’s local HD channels. Exclusive Time Warner Cable SportsChannels in markets including New York, Ohio, Wisconsin and Texas will also televise the events. Showdown coverage will air in both English and Spanish and will feature game highlights, behind-the-scenes footage and exclusive interviews with the athletes, all in support of Steve’s community work.
