Coach Zidane returns to Real Madrid

Zinedine Zidane returned to his first coaching job with Real Madrid. The French World Cup champion, won 9 titles with Real including the last three Champions League crowns.

This season has been a transitioning year for Real Madrid losing Cristiano Ronaldo in the off-season, humiliated by FC Barcelona in the domestic competition and evicted at home, in the Champions League, by a young Ajax Amsterdam team.

That was too much for interim coach Scolari who succeeded to Lopetegui, who succeeded to Zidane to start the year. Two coaches in less than a year later, one of the club’s legend comes back. For his first game he was happy following the victory 2-0 against Vigo.

Coach Zidane comments on the win against Celta Vigo

I go away happy. We’re feeling good and ultimately we’ve picked up a great result which is what we were looking for. We didn’t start brilliantly but that’s to be expected, we had to be patient. The end of the first half was better and then after the break we really improved. We finished stronger than we started out and that means we’re looking good physically”.

“We struggled a bit in the first half but the last ten minutes we did push higher up. The second half was a big improvement. We made some alterations at the break and then looked much better. I liked how often we got in shooting positions and we put in 20 crosses, when you have that many, you up your chances of scoring, which is what we did”.

“I felt great. Nothing much has changed but I always feel at home here. I’ve been involved in almost every area of the club and I feel fantastic. There’s a great atmosphere and all I’m thinking about is finishing the season on a high. It wasn’t perfect today but there were lots of positives”.

“We’d only had three training sessions and now we’ve got two weeks to work with the players, speak to them and put what we’ve worked on in training into practice. I hope the next game is better than today’s”.
