La Liga week 24: Villareal 2-3 Real Madrid
Down 2-0 after an awful start of the second half, Real Madrid was about to let FC Barcelona in control of La Liga after its victory 2-1 at Atletico Madrid. But in 20 minutes, Real pulled off an incredible comeback to maintain its lead and still with one game in hand over the Blaugrana.
Coach Zidane talks about the comeback:
“At 2-0 down we had to change something. We did so and it worked out well for us. We made an attacking change and enjoyed more possession in their half. We knew that we were coming up against a good side, who have being doing fantastically well at home. We had to be patient and our substitutions ended up changing the game. It was important for us to get the three points to remain top.
There’s no doubt that Isco and Morata deserve to get more minutes. They did very well and changed the game for us. I’m certain that we’ll need to call on the whole squad. I gave Morata a couple of tactical bits of advice and told him he needed to be in the box to finish any chances and for him to stick on Bruno in the middle when we were defending. He got his goal and we’re all happy.
We performed much better in the second half than we did in the first. We got into more scoring positions and ultimately we come away with three points against opposition that can make life tough for you. We’re happy to have taken three points against a great side”.
